Culture Shock! (補2001)
沒有想到吧！事隔八年，我仍然能記得第一次到加拿大的所有心情，所有的第一次，包括好的、壞的。
說真的，在台灣的生活總是忙、忙、忙，沒能好好地記錄一切，第一次到加拿大遊學回來，僅能簡單地記錄一下，但六個月的點點滴滴豈是十幾篇文章能寫完的，第一眼見到Calgary的震撼，六個月後離開前的不捨，至今仍然鮮活地存在我的腦子裡。

文化差異Culture Differences
用寬大的心胸去看待文化差異，接納彼此的不同，跨國友誼也可以長長久久～
遊學其實不僅僅是學習英文這個簡單的目標，擴展視野更是一件重要的事。避免只用"台灣人"一種觀點去看所有的事情，跟我們習慣不合的通通覺得奇怪，這樣的態度並不能幫助你盡快地適應當地的生活。如果能抱持一顆熱切的心，把每件不一樣的人事物都當成有趣新鮮的事情來研究，你的遊學路就會有趣多多。

Coins, coins, coins
每到一個國家，硬幣總是令人又愛又恨的小東西。
加幣的coins有很多不同的幣值，大小、形狀、顏色都有不同，剛開始可以先把先把1元和2元記起來，這兩枚比較大，1元不是圓形的，2元最大是雙色（外銀內黃）。

I love movies！
OH! 看電影很重要！絕對不能錯過的活動～
Calgary每週二下午有二輪電影，很便宜，在舊的大統華（T&T）那區，C-Train（卡加利輕鐵） Marlborough站，問問待比較久的同學應該就知道了。說是二輪片，其實有時候會比台灣的院線片還早，而且有些不錯的片也不會進台灣，一定要去看，順便練聽力，不過請選擇文藝愛情片或兒童迪士尼片，千萬別選偵探、懸疑、科幻...肯定聽不懂！

帶著旅行支票到了加拿大，該做些什麼呢？
找時間帶著護照到銀行去開戶，然後把旅支通通存進去，不要拿著旅支花用，這樣太累了，那是觀光客做的事，我們可是國際學生，不是觀光客啦！

照顧自己的小技巧
以下的敘述，完全以個人經驗為主，不見得客觀。

Calgary的氣候真是又乾又冷，好處是不容易感冒，壞處是人未老容易先有皺紋。由於我是三寶身體，又特別怕冷，春夏秋三季，還是很注重保暖。好好地照顧自己，你就不會覺得Calgary很冷了。冬天下雪真的很美，我愛Calgary的雪，下完雪出大太陽，湛藍天空會使人忘卻煩惱。

悼 Jason，一位良師益友！
I cried.
He's
such a nice person. He's one of the best English teachers that I've
ever met and he's one of my best Canadian friends. He is Jason.
He
died yesterday. He'd been fighting with Cystic Fibrosis for his whole
life. Maybe it was time for him to become an angel. No more pain. No
more suffering. No more treatment. No more medication.
He was a brave person.
"Take
care!" was the last words I said to him with a bit worry. "I will!" was
the last words he said to me with a broad grin on his face. That
comforted me. I believed. Then we hugged goodbye. I didn't realize that
it would be a farewell. The fresh smell of him made me believe that he
would be alright.
The memories kept coming back vividly. I cried
when I told Vincent the bad news. Vincent almost cried too. "It's a big
loss," he said. I nodded. "I liked him," he said. "Me too!" I cried
harder.
I cried because I felt regretting. I hardly had that feeling.
Last
September, right before I came back to Taipei from Vancouver, Jason and
I had a cup of coffee at our favorite coffee shop in the mall. We
talked. We laughed. We had a great time. We had so much in common-- We
like the same coffee shop. We like Tim Hortons. We like "made in
Canada." And we both LOVE teaching!
However, he left his job for the illness last February. He talked about how much he missed teaching.
To
cheer him up, I asked him to mark my writing and continued teaching me
until I could talk and write like him. He promised. "It's a lot of hard
working," he said. And I promised to write at least one article a
month. However, I was so busy when I got back that I didn't write to
him. Not even an email. Not even a word! I thought about it from time
to time and I said to myself that I would write to him at the coming
weekend. But weekends passed by. And now I don't have any chance to
write to him again.
I am sooooo sorry! We lost a good friend and
I lost a good teacher. I'm so sorry, Jason! I'm sorry that I didn't
write to you sooner! Vincent said that you would understand because
you're so smart. You must have forgiven me.
We miss you, Jason!
As we regret your death for your family's sake, I'm grateful that you
must feel no pain now. I don't know what to say but I believe you must
be an angel! We don't know what to do that we can't go to your funeral
to say goodbye, but we'll do something for you in our way.
Goodbye, Jason! Farewell!
